The problem today is that only a third of the job offers we receive through various channels are considered relevant, which means that as much as 64% of the offers that are currently circulating simply don't resonate.

Traditionally, CVs are focused on someone's past. When the resume is used to match jobs (through automatic matching tools or people), the chance is significantly higher that the job match is not relevant as the next job. The 298 respondents confirmed this: 45% of job proposals continue to focus on past jobs, 38% on the current position, and only match a meager 7.8% with future ambitions.

The problem with CVs

It's no surprise that most CVs or LinkedIn profiles focus on recording past experiences, because the purpose of these documents is primarily to show what experience and skills someone has and what that person has achieved. As a result, candidates put themselves in the spotlight during the application process. But when this information is used to match jobs, it logically leads to many proposals for similar positions that someone has already filled, instead of what someone is really looking for in the future.

This causes friction in the recruitment process. Our findings also underline this:

  • 69% of candidates feel frustrated by having to repeatedly explain why proposed vacancies are no longer relevant.
  • Only 33% of candidates provide insight into their current interest and ambition in their resume, leaving a significant gap in understanding the person in addition to their professional performance.
